Scott Free Racing, a multiple World & National Championship-winning offshore boat racing team, earned another prestigious APBA Offshore National Championship. The 2021 title makes it back-to-back championships to boot.
Racing in the Modified V class on the APBA Offshore Championship Series, Scott Free Racing’s BoatFloater.com #2 is a 29-foot Extreme with a 650 horsepower Innovation Marine inboard motor and Hydromotive propeller. Weighing in at 4,750 lbs, the boat’s top speed is 95 miles per hour. Using STEEL-IT® to protect any materials and components subject to corrosion allowed the team to focus on testing and performance rather than maintenance and downtime.
STEEL-IT contains custom-engineered 316L stainless steel flakes for superior protection against corrosion, abrasion, & harsh chemicals, which is perfect to resist the extreme conditions of saltwater environments.
Scott Free Racing earned the 2021 APBA Offshore National Championship by way of four straight wins through the first half of the season, followed by a 3rd place podium, 4th place finish in St. Petersburg and finally wrapped it all up with a 2nd place finish in Fort Myers to secure the championship title.
"The saltwater is so harsh on our equipment during a race season and no matter how much you clean and protect, it shows. This is the first season we have protected our components with STEEL-IT products and the results speak for themselves. Our engine mounts and seat brackets would have to be removed in the middle of a season to be re-finished due to salt corrosion or rust, but they still look brand new with STEEL-IT. Not only does this help us finish races, but we eliminate downtime and can spend more time testing and improving our performance".
"If STEEL-IT can help us on the racecourse, it can help any recreational boater. Instead of paying to have your components powder-coated, anybody can apply the aerosol products right in your garage and have better long-lasting protection that is affordable. We have even started using the product on our boat trailer because they take a beating in the saltwater and the results have been fantastic". ~ Stephen Kildahl, Driver Scott Free Racing ~
Overall, the team set out and achieved their goal for the regular season, being crowned the National Champions. They will continue to test and improve for the Key West World Championships in November, where they will compete against teams from across the globe for the world title!
Scott Free Racing has been vital to STEEL-IT's mission to educate marine enthusiasts about the benefits of anticorrosive coatings. After partnering up during the 2020 season, which delivered an APBA Offshore National Championship, STEEL-IT congratulates Scott Free Racing on earning the 2021 series title and back-to-back championships.
